We, at Peru Nature Treks, declare our unequivocal commitment to the protection of children and adolescents, actively preventing and combating the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents in Travel and Tourism (ESNNA). This formal declaration confirms our strict adherence to the Peruvian General Tourism Law N° 29408 and the Code of Conduct against ESNNA established by MINCETUR. Our objective is to operate as a completely responsible travel agency (EEAT), using our authority to educate both our team and our Travelers about the severe legal consequences of child exploitation, ensuring a safe environment in all the communities where we conduct our treks and tours. We take this responsibility seriously and act on it daily.

1. Our Legal and Ethical Obligation
As a licensed tour operator in Perú, we assume the legal and ethical responsibility to actively participate in the prevention of ESNNA. This commitment is non-negotiable and extends across every level of our operations, from the main office in Cusco to the remotest trekking route. We ensure that all our actions reinforce the protection of minors.
- Legal Compliance and Penalties:
- We advise all Travelers and partners that the exploitation and sexual abuse of minors under 18 years of age are criminal offenses under the Peruvian Penal Code and are subject to severe judicial sanctions, including lengthy prison sentences, regardless of the nationality of the perpetrator.
- Our contracts with all third-party providers, including hotels, transport companies, and local suppliers, include a mandatory clause prohibiting any activity related to ESNNA. We reserve the right to immediately terminate any contract upon knowledge of a violation.
- Zero-Tolerance Policy:
- We maintain a zero-tolerance policy against any form of child sexual exploitation. This applies to all employees, guides, porters, and clients. We will not promote, facilitate, or tolerate any behavior that contributes to ESNNA.
2. Training, Awareness, and Internal Actions
We believe that prevention begins with rigorous internal training and continuous awareness. Our staff, being local experts, are often the first point of contact in vulnerable communities, and we empower them to be vigilant protectors of children.
- Staff Training and Vetting:
- We implement mandatory training programs for all our guides, porters, and administrative personnel on the identification of suspicious situations and the correct reporting protocols as defined by Peruvian authorities.
- We conduct thorough vetting processes for all individuals we hire, especially those who interact directly with the public and local communities, reinforcing our organizational experience in ethical operations.
- Information Dissemination to Travelers:
- We include a clear warning about ESNNA in our booking documentation, informing all Travelers of Peruvian laws and their obligation to respect the rights of children.
- We display the official ESNNA Code of Conduct poster (approved by MINCETUR) prominently in our offices and key operational centers, ensuring visibility and continuous awareness.
3. Reporting and Response Mechanism
Our responsibility is not limited to prevention; we commit to swift and reliable action if we suspect or become aware of a case of ESNNA. We ensure that reliable channels are known and accessible.
- Mandatory Reporting:
- We require all Peru Nature Treks personnel to immediately report any suspected case of ESNNA to our dedicated internal compliance officer.
- The compliance officer must immediately escalate the report to the competent Peruvian authorities.
